Michael Fink and Kendal O’Keefe co-presented on Friday, November 15th, 2013 for the Volunteer Lawyers Network of Minnesota. “Established in 1966, Volunteer Lawyers Network (VLN) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing free civil legal services to low-income persons through volunteer attorneys. In short, VLN engages the vast human resources of the private bar in addressing some of the most pressing legal issues facing struggling individuals and families in our community.”
Friday’s presentation was part of a project with a VLN task force focused on “identifying and assisting undocumented youth who qualify for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status in immigration proceedings.” Part of this project focuses on training volunteer attorneys to represent custodians in third party custody proceedings in order to obtain the state court findings required for the SIJS immigration proceeding. The training session was held at the office of Faegre Baker Daniels in downtown Minneapolis. Mr. Fink and Ms. O’Keefe presented on “International Service of Process” during the last portion of this training session.
